4KIDS Volunteers are a vital source of encouragement and practical help for the children, young adults, and foster families we serve, as well as administrative support for our staff.
Through one-time volunteer opportunities in support of an event or providing ongoing support for a foster family or program, you can make a difference by investing your time. 4KIDS has two types of volunteers:

Volunteering is about more than filling a need. It is about showing up for children, families, and communities in ways that create encouragement and connection.
Please note, we have volunteer opportunities only in the Florida counties in which 4KIDS serves.
(HCP Maternity Home and Independent Living program homes are currently only located in Broward County.)
Walk alongside foster families.
Children in foster care – and the families who open their hearts & homes to them – need a loving, supportive community around them. Much like extended family, FAM Teams, comprised of 4-8 committed volunteers, come alongside a foster family to offer support in one or more of the following ways:
Consistent Prayer
A monthly meal
- Provide & deliver a home cooked meal or have a meal delivered from a restaurant to the foster family’s home once a month
- Commit to serving a minimum of 6 months.
Babysitting/childcare/mentoring
- Provide childcare for a family’s foster & biological children (if any) in the foster family’s home
- Childcare volunteers commit to serving at least once a month for one year
- Provide mentorship for one or more pre-teens/teens in the foster family’s home OR a foster parent-approved location
- Mentor volunteers commit to serving at least twice a month for one year
- Obtain a Level 2 Background Screening conducted by the 4KIDS Volunteer Dept., including fingerprints, a Church Leader Reference and 2 Personal References
Transportation Assistance
- Provide transportation for a child or teen in foster care to/from after-school activities, appointments, etc.
- Transportation volunteers commit to providing transportation or other volunteer service at least once a month for one year
- Obtain a Level 2 Background Screening conducted by the 4KIDS Volunteer Dept., including fingerprints, a Church Leader Reference and 2 Personal References
- Obtain a Clearance to Drive from the 4KIDS Volunteer Dept.
Tutoring/Homework Help
- Provide tutoring and/or homework help to children/teens in foster care at the foster family’s home or online if acceptable option
- Experience as an educator or tutor preferred
- Obtain a Level 1 Background Screening conducted by the 4KIDS Volunteer Dept., including a Church Leader Reference and 2 Personal References
Household Help
- Provide a helping hand to a foster parent in the areas of childcare or basic household responsibilities
- Household Helpers are typically needed on weekday afternoon/evenings or weekend days
- Obtain a Level 1 Background Screening conducted by the 4KIDS Volunteer Dept., including a Church Leader Reference and 2 Personal References
FAM Team Coordination (FAM Team Leader)
- Provide leadership, communication and coordination of a FAM Team of volunteers so that a foster family is well supported, and the volunteers are connected to serving.
- FAM Team Leaders serve approximately 2 hours per month and commit to serving for 1 year
- Obtain a Level 1 Background Screening conducted by the 4KIDS Volunteer Dept., including a Church Leader Reference and 2 Personal References

4KIDS’ Transitional Independent Living program, known as TIL, is a two-year residential program where young adults transitioning out of foster care can further their education, gain employment experience, and participate in life skills classes while surrounded by the encouragement of resident advisors, mentors, and other young adults.
TIL volunteers guide young adults in their transition into independence with practical guidance and consistent encouragement.
Volunteers in our TIL program must be at least 26 years old, obtain a volunteer clearance, and commit to serving on Tuesday evenings to attend the weekly fellowship of residents, RAs, and mentors in one of the homes and attend a monthly “Big Fellowship”.
Attending a Big Fellowship is the first step if you would like to explore whether to pursue becoming a TIL Mentor.

Support women during an important season.
His Caring Place (HCP) is a two-year program that provides stable housing and assistance for women with a limited support system who are facing pregnancies and/or parenting young children. Through these services, young moms are able to receive support, grow in independent living skills, and learn about God’s love.
HCP volunteers must be female, at least 26 years old, obtain a volunteer clearance, and commit to being available to provide babysitting support during Tuesday evening fellowships, LifeSkill classes, or while moms attend job interviews, work or school. Mentor volunteers attend monthly “Big Fellowships” on a Tuesday evening and may provide transportation for a young mom to attend a doctor’s appointment or job interview.
Attending a Big Fellowship is the first step if you would like to explore whether to pursue becoming an HCP volunteer.

If you enjoy decorating, assisting with preparations, or just being a helping hand, please consider volunteering at a 4KIDS Event! Volunteers assist with event prep, day of event set up and breakdown, hospitality and so much more! Please note Event volunteers should be physically able to lift and carry up to 10-15lbs.

- Office Front Desk Volunteer – Serve one day a week for a minimum of 2 hrs., to greet guests and assist staff. Volunteer clearance required.

Who exactly is 4KIDS?
4KIDS is a Christian nonprofit dedicated to providing hope, homes, and healing for children and families in crisis. Through foster care, family preservation, trauma-informed therapy, support for young adults aging out of foster care, care for young mothers facing unplanned pregnancies, and specialized residential programs, we work toward a future where every child has a safe and loving home.
Do I have to become a foster parent to get involved?
Not at all. While foster families are deeply needed, there are many ways to make a difference. You can volunteer, support a foster family, mentor a young adult, attend events, pray, give financially, or partner through your church or business. We believe everyone has a role to play in helping children and families thrive.
Who can become a foster parent?
Many people are surprised to learn they may qualify. Foster parents come from a variety of backgrounds and life stages, including married couples, single adults, parents, and individuals without children of their own. If you have room in your heart and home and meet the basic requirements, we'd love to help you explore whether fostering is right for you.
What kinds of children need foster families?
Children enter foster care for many reasons, including abuse, neglect, family instability, addiction, or other circumstances that make home unsafe. They range in age from infants to teenagers and may be part of sibling groups who need to stay together. Every child deserves safety, stability, and caring adults who believe in their future.
What does the process of becoming a foster parent look like?
The journey begins with a conversation. Our team walks prospective foster parents through training, licensing, home preparation, and ongoing support. While timelines vary, the process is designed to ensure families feel equipped, informed, and confident before welcoming a child into their home.
What support does 4KIDS provide to foster families?
You are never expected to do this alone. 4KIDS provides training, licensing support, trauma-informed resources, advocacy, and ongoing encouragement throughout your fostering journey. We also mobilize churches, volunteers, and community partners to surround foster families with practical support and care.
How does 4KIDS help prevent children from entering foster care?
Through programs like CarePortal, 4KIDS connects churches and community members with families facing urgent, practical needs. Sometimes a bed, car seat, groceries, rent assistance, or other support can help stabilize a family and prevent a crisis from becoming a foster care placement. Prevention is one of the most effective ways we can help children remain safely connected to their families.
What is EPIC Therapy and Healing?
EPIC is 4KIDS' trauma-informed therapeutic approach designed to help children and families heal from difficult experiences. By addressing emotional, physical, intellectual, and character development, EPIC equips children, caregivers, and families with tools that foster resilience, connection, and long-term healing.
